A new smartphone with a fingerprint scanner will be available in the United States in late 2018, according to a new report.
The new phones, the Galaxy S8 and S8+ , will feature a fingerprint sensor that can unlock the device with a swipe of the finger, according the Wall Street Journal.
The feature is available to Android and iOS smartphones that can run the new Touch ID fingerprint recognition system, which was recently released for Android phones.
Apple and Samsung have been testing the new fingerprint scanner on iPhone and iPad models since September.
Apple introduced the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6 Plus with Touch ID last fall, and Apple’s new iPhone 6 has a fingerprint reader built into the rear of the phone.
Samsung introduced its Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge in September with Touch IDs, which were only available on the Galaxy Note 7 and Note 7 Plus phones.
The Galaxy S9, Galaxy S10, and Galaxy S12 will feature fingerprint scanners in the coming months.
